That footage was interesting to say the least Steve ............... back in the day you'd have had to shove your cosh against his throad and hope it was bigger than his.

I support CCTV systems, I can see them as a very useful tool ................ and for anyone who is causght mis-using images a term in the big hoose and the loss of the drivers badge should be enough to convince anyone thinking about pervy gannins on.

I have been looking into installing CCTV in ma cab but its not just a case of sticking the cameras in.

You have to register with the information Commisionar. You are put on whats called the notifiers register (£35/year).
You also have to give a description of the equipment, the purpose of the equipment and how long images are stored for.
You also need to display the CCTV in use stickers giving details of the operator ie name and address.
If u havent done this then CCTV evidence would not be valid in court.

You also need to be familiar with 'subject access request notification' procedures.

I'm no expert but I don't think that you have to register when your only camera is a fixed one in your cab. ( or even two )

And you don't need all the details of the operator either.

However you should display signage on each entry point showing that cctv is in use.

I think you are thinking of the rules that apply to business premises. Well I certainly hope so!

I have been thinking about cctv in my vehicle for a long while but was never sure where to start or what to buy!

However, looking at the series of pics on this post it looks positively easy! I think I would need to get it wired in by a sparky as I am not competent enough to play around with the electrics myself!

I would like to ask anybody if there is anything specific I need to look for in buying the equipment? The cameras on the post are still on sale in Maplins for £19.99, I have seen a DVR on ebay for £150 with postage and a small monitor on ebay for £47 plus postage. But I am not sure if they will all work together hence why I want to know if there is something specific I need to ask about each particular piece of equipment?

DVRs and vehicles really don't mix.  The inside of a car is a dusty, damp vibrating environment - just what a hard disk hates.  Also the voltage fluctuates greatly in a car.  That upsets hard disks too.  You should only consider using solid state memory (Flash is the best).  You'll also need to ensure that you have enough light at night - infrared.

Another thing about putting a monitor in; if it is permanently mounted the passing low-life will think that is a DVD player, or some such. They are worth nicking and becoem a target. Also there are regulations limiting where a screen may be placed; the driver musn't be able to see it when he's driving. Limits its attractiveness really.

Hi just thought I would jump in on this thread......if thats ok

I am a driving instructor that has started a new company called UniqueVid. I have been providing  In Car CCTV system for driving instructors for the last year and after chatting to a couple of Taxi drivers have decided to let you know about my system. The two Taxi drivers that have seen it think it is great,  so now is your chance to tell me what you think of it?

This system is designed only for a car not like the DVR that is shown in the first post, that one is for home use as it has no anti vibrations to protect the hardrive, also it has problems with the 12v supply from a car as sometimes cars may increase to as high as 36v (trust me I found out the hard way !)

UniqueVid has been designed to overcome these problems, especially the anti vibrations.

Once again let me know your thoughts?

OK I will. Terry is a money grabbing fool. ( well thats my thoughts )
And you need no permission or inspection from any bugger to protect your belongings or personal safety by the means of CCTV.

You will notice on here......if the idea is not presented by the GMB it is never any good.
