Afternoon folks..

First post on here and I thought it goodto be this thread I posted it...

It's hard enough trying to earn a living these days driving a taxi without people like Faz doing their best to destroy what's left of the industry..

There is always a solution to this type of thing tho..

The town I work in has 2 large companies and a few smaller ones. A year ago someone decided to start their own company in the area offering set prices that were about a 1/3 of the usual prices.. Wasn't long until we started to notice a loss in trade... The problem was that they got to busy too quickly and didn't have the cars to cover the jobs they were getting..

As a result my boss decided to finish them off properly...

Together with the other large company they lowered our prices to even less than the new company was offering for a period of 3 months.. As our companies had the cars to cover the work there were no problems at all.. The end result was that 3 smaller companies, including the one who forced the change, were put our of business and their drivers came to us... Unfortunately we took a bit of a hit on the wallet for a short while but ultimately it was worth it in the long run...

We have since deterred such things happening again and are back to a nice peaceful co-existance with a few other small companies.. There is enough work for all of us and all drivers can make a decent living...

Seems to be the 'in thing' for people with a bit of money to set up a PH/Taxi company and think they can make an easy buck.. Too many times they succeed and others suffer as a result.. The only way to put a stop to this is for the larger companies to force their hand... They may be able to compete for a short while but when they only have a dozen or so cars and the phone doesn't stop ringing on a busy weekend cutomers soon get fed up and go back to what they know..

I have many other things going on which are far more rewarding than to log on to here and exchange childish comments with low lifes such as yourself who obviously have no life!

Firstly I operate on the edge of 2 boundaries, Oxford City Council and the Vale of White Horse in an area called Botley - which comes under the vale of White Horse but geographicaly its very much part of Oxford and starts within the Oxford ringroad. There were NO taxi companies in Botley before we started a company 18 months ago (so I am NOT undercutting ANY local company) due to there not being a local taxi company in Botley most people relied on Oxford licenced taxis and were charged OUT OF AREA rates especialy at night when some drivers charged £10 for a 2 mile journey! this is what led me to setup a taxi service for the local community in Botley and the surrounding villages. Some private hire companies were taking telephone bookings from botley and charging 0.00 startoff and £1.70 per mile. To compete in the pre booking field with these out of area private hires We reduced our mileage rate by 0.30 pence per mile WHICH IS TOTALY LEGAL as the solicistor confirmed in an earlier reply on this forum AND I chalenged the local council who also affirmed the legality of this by backing down.

I really have far more lucrative things to take care of hence will not be replying to your silly, pathetic and extremely childish comments. There really is a big world full of wonderful things beyond your computer screen - go on get off your fat smelly arse and go for a walk, you will learn awful lot once you step outside of your secluded world.

adios

Faz legally your right, but morally wrong its your ilk that destroys our industry. Many on here have experienced the damage you and your like have inflicted on our industrys you choose to ignore their posts. We the GMBPDBs will do all within our power to make your activities ILLEGAL, just as we fought to make amongst other issues illegal , racial discrimination, sexual discrimination, victimising union members and a whole host of other issues. You might or might not have benefited from some of that, think about it!

I congratulate you on supplying a service where one wasnt previously availabe, but dont let that service have practices that are detrimental to the industry as a whole.

Faz...Do not be put off posting and joining us on this forum...Baaayyyyyeeeeeee we need real Taxi drivers on here that can input modern day fact into debates.
I personally do not agree with running at a reduced rate BUT...as you state it is LEGAL what you are doing and thats what counts in reality mate.

Your post is been contended by a man that really believes in his cause, but please do not think that it is TaxiForums that is driving you away....You are in front of your PC THAT IS YOUR CORNER .....We are only members that post...NO better than you.....If you do not agree fight your corner Thats what the forums are all about......Others will say different mind you.
Its about the Taxi Trade..not just unions and who will take your money.
Have your say. Its your right to have an independent view.

See you later Faz...Be Lucky

And Faz In all truthfulness that will never be changed..
I have done extensive research on the matter and councils....note how I said councils not council
will never back this.
As long as you do not exceed the current rate you can charge less.....
Ask the contract lads...You know "us" that do Contracts...the council ask Hackney drivers for price jobs...and accept them.
It is never the case to say to drivers...Meter the job and tell us the price ?
The licensing councils act exactly the same as the public...."Price it right and you get the job"......
SO Faz we do disagree....withh morals...but you are within the law mate and doing nothing wrong so best of luck.

Steve

I am not being driven away by the comments of some twat who has nothing better to do but point fingers at others when they are carrying out there business in perfectly legal law abiding ways - I just have far better and rewarding things to do then to reply to some insecure arseholes who obviously have nothing else to do with their time and are probbaly jealous of my success.

Morals - a lot of people who use my taxi service are OAPs and single parents who need a taxi to the doctors or the hospital or wherever for that matter - BUT these people are often on limited budgets and my lower taxi fares are helping them - AM I immoral?????

All these prats moaning about someone charging lower fares BENEFIT from lower supermarket prices buying the cheapest supermarket foods / items - where are their morals then? why dont these twats boycott the supermarkets and all the other competively priced services like insurance, fuel, financial services etc etc etc

Anyways these pussies posting these comments on the net wouldnt DARE say shit like this to my face - I would personally knock some sense into their thick heads.

low fares mean poor maintenance........ how do you work that out Terry.

shop around, even some garages charge less than their competitors.

a garage with no work doesnt pay wages.

so some work even at enough to cover costs can be the deciding factor of survival or bust at times.

the money in the city say we are in for a recession for maybe up to the next 2 years.

as you know in a recession people tighten their wallets, no restaurants etc.... meaning less trade for cabbies, meaning less turn over.
so in this instance is it not survival of the fittest and maybe the only way to get the business is to undercharge your competitors?

im not saying im for it, but i can understand the reasons why people will do it. its about having an edge on your competitors.

i've just done something this month against all the other trade mags, within 5 days of my competitors coming out, i've made their publications look out of date by a calendar month....lol

example:  PHTM is February issue, and so are all the rest. i mention PHTM, because Taxi-Today and Phtm are the only 2 National publications out there, the others are Regional, inner M25, North East, North West

All these other publications are Titled February 2008, Then on the 7th Feb out comes Taxi-Today titled March issue. are you going to pick up an issue titled February which looks out of date when you see Taxi-Today titled March issue. its all about having the edge over your competitors.

as long as no one is breaking any law or legislation then what can be said or done.

you and others may not like it, but at the end of the day, its the take home cash that decides whats right and not morals i'm afraid to say.
