CCTV for 'the most dangerous job outside army' THE FIRST Crawley cabbie to have his car fitted with council-funded CCTV supplied by XTRON as first advertised in Taxi-Today June Issue has hailed the scheme as a lifesaver - and thanked the Crawley News. John Fraser, secretary of the Crawley Licensed Cab Drivers' Association, displayed his CCTV camera-fitted Skoda out-side the Town Hall last Friday. The unveiling marked a triumph for the ongoing News campaign for greater cabbie protection through in-car CCTV. Mr Fraser said: "Three cab drivers across the UK were killed in May alone.Taxi owners get attacked way too much. "Apart from being in the armed forces it's the most dangerous job you can have. CCTV in cabs will stop attacks on town drivers and I'm proud to have the first one. "I would like to thank Crawley Council for their super efforts and the News for being the paper that backed our campaign all the way." Crawley Council have funds to provide 19 more late-night cab drivers with a £250 grant for their CCTV - and are urging those interested to get in touch. Councillor Keith Blake was at the Town Hall, on The Boulevard, to give his support. Mr Blake said: "This will be of great benefit to taxi drivers in the town and their passengers. "CCTV ensures that any assaults are recorded and presented to the police to ensure a successful prosecution. "I urge more taxi drivers to get in touch with the council to take advantage of this funding and help make Crawley a safer place."
Have you looked at the latest system from VerifEye - it certainly isn't outdated and is the system of choice in many cities in North America and Australia. We've got the capacity, multiple heads, sound if you want it. You can now add GPS and G-Force sensing. I don't think you'll find another system as flexible. Link that to solid state memory, rather than the discs of other systems, and you have the latest technology helping to protect you.

Steady guys. No-one can guarantee that images offered in evidence will be accepted in court. Particularly still images taken out of a video. There is bound to be some blurring if there is any movement. Also any system that uses a hard drive is heading for failure. There isn't a disc drive around that can tolerate the vibration, temperature and humidity changes and generally poor conditions found in a motor vehicle for very long. They will fail, and you won't know that they have failed until it's too late and you've been attacked and need to get some pictures out of it. You need to conssider only those systems that record intoi solid state flash memory - they'll last.
