People who travel in taxis from Bristol International Airport could be putting their lives in danger, it has been revealed.

Following a surprise inspection of the taxis in operation at the airport by officers from the North Somerset Council, Bristol City Council and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency, the authorities found that one in four were unfit for the road.

Of the 55 vehicles that were investigated, two unlicensed drivers and taxis were discovered, and a total of 15 prohibition notices were issued halting their operations.

Councillor Felicity Baker told the Weston and Somerset Mercury: "These worrying figures … raise serious concerns in terms of the safety of people using taxis and courtesy vehicles at the airport."

She added that further checks will be carried out, claiming they will be "essential to ensure public safety".

Meanwhile, Worthing Council recently issued a warning to the public, outlining the dangers of using bogus taxi companies, the Mid Sussex Times reports.
