Is this to do with the boss’s mob that organised the fuel strikes to undermine the government before?

Do you remember pickets out side the oil refineries being allowed inside to use the toilet and canteen facilities who had tea and bacon rolls brought out to them on the picket lines?

I seem to remember Lorries parked across the highways causing an obstruction with the chief of police in the area doing an interview saying what jolly good chaps the pickets were.

They were going to block the highways etc. A motley crew of road haulers, sections of the black cab industry and the National Farmers Union, NFU which sounds like the NTA and their motto but I don't think it had anything to do with them.

It all collapsed after the oil companies met with Gordon Brown and it was agreed that there would be no windfall tax on their outrageous profits.

It's a bit like when the military top brass are wheeled out to attack the government at the same time as the OB are threatening to go on strike and civil servants and private companies are losing government records.

You might even agree with the filth having the right to strike just like we all agree that the ordinary man in the street pays far too much for petrol, but you just know the whole bloody thing aint kosher

Nationalize something profitable like the oil companies instead of throwing government money at northern bankers (northern rock not the NTA). Alternatively might it be an idea if the government took a leaf out of Ken Livingstone’s book and tried to do a deal with Hugo Chavez so as we could get cheep oil from Venezuela

Nationalise Fuel.

Brilliant.

I mean, the government recieve such a small percentage of the price we pay at the pumps don't they.

I watched a programme of the tele the other day and they were saying variety was dead ................. well move over The Two Ronnies I think we've just found a new comedy double act.

Pay peanuts get monkeys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have to get the money from somewhere to prop up Northern Rock, to pay US firms to lose records, send young men and women to be killed and maimed in George Bushes wars for oil.

Sorry to be a bit cynical but the geordies I have met over the years were always sickened by the way that the working people were ripped off by the people who run the show (big business) and those who administrate on their behalf while giving the illusion of democracy (the government, whether it be tweedle dee or tweedle dumb at whatever given moment in time)

Still we could always go back to a fuedal monarchy and get ripped off while we are arguing where Sedan chairs can and can't pick up

Your saying nationalise the fuel companies suggesting that prices would come down when it is the government who take the majority of the money we pay at the pumps in taxes.

Your not being cynical SLC your being contradictive ............. giving the people all the power to control a market where they are the biggest beneficiaries will only lead to prices going up as your allowing competition to be removed.

Yours is an ill thought out idea, and your "pop" at geordies generally identifies your lack of debating skills, as you struggle to stay on topic.

Incorrect bandit. The last thing I would do is have a pop at the Geordies or the Scouse come to that some of the most loyal , self sacrificing and dedicated trade unionists I have ever known and who I hold in more respect than most others come from those two regions of England.

Nationalisation of the oil companies who have been recording record profits running into tens of billions have been recorded in the last four years and your argument does not hold water.

For example if the revenues from North sea oil had been pumped back into the country instead of helping to make oil companies from this country and others so rich that countries go to war over it, (or more accurately the most advanced industrialised countries commit mass murder to get their hands on developing countries national resources), perhaps we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now.

It is a scandal that these gangsters (and that is what they are) can hold a democratically elected government to ransom (that is cynicism) as explained in an earlier post.

What we wouldn't want to do I would have thought is get mixed up with dodgy groupings like those who have organised the fuel protests. Surely our argument is for a more effective public transport system that is properly integrated.

Surely a government committed to environmental preservation should be adopting that line and within that context I think there is a legitimate argument for subsidized fuel for those providing public transport.

After all if it is good enough for those who grow our food i.e. the farmers then surely it is right for it to be extended to those providing public transport.

Might be a bit difficult though if they are still in gangster, sorry private hands.

P.S
You obviously have your head screwed on and the points you make about competition holding prices down may have some validity.

If you want to carry on the debate on the GMB PDB website I will be happy to do so because it wouldn't be fair to many of the others on the site for us to be having bloody great long political debate

Mick those of us that have met you , of course respect your views on our industries, cracks about Geordies are just that, you want to pop cockneys, why not!

As for nationalisation, obviously its essential for some areas, we dont want private armies do we? but for the likes of Rail and Bus transport nationalisation is the more efficient cheapest option. So far as OIL is concerned, our oil revenues were used by Thatcher to fuel the dole queus and as Steve has pointed out illegal asset stealing wars, me id nationalise them without compensation! but that aint going to happen is it.

This thread is supposedly about an idea to organise MASS industrial action against the Government on fuel taxation. I have no concrete view on whether it would be successfull in influencing the Government. My main point is that on here and many other sites drivers complain loudly about fuel taxation but when a possibble solution is suggested we are met with absolute silence! I cant figure out why? but if i were to express my disgust at the arrival of another free loading poncing parasite of the royal family on the scene, we would be met immediately with idiots defending these scum! Surely fuel taxation is more important to professional drivers? If not why not?

The real question who would be prepared to participate in such action? maybe more than were prepared to attend a lobby of parliament on Driver safety!! so far NONE from this site!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look chaps its simple mathematics, lets use for simplicity approx figures.

We pay £1 for a litre of fuel, 40% of that is fuel duty 17.5% is VAT so the government effetively gets more than half of our £1.

Out of the remainder the oil needs to be taken from the ground, refined and then transported all of which incurs labour.

We should also be aware, and make others aware that road fuel is a product of crude oil BUT NOT THE ONLY PRODUCT, many of which are more profitable than the fuel.

The price we pay at the pumps for our fuel IS ONLY DIFFERENT THAN THE PRICE THEY PAY IN THE U.S because of the duty added by government.

I believe that giving them total control of the market will not have the effect of reducing prices at the pump .............. and your statement that the fuel companies are making billions is small beans compared to the ammount the government is making as they don't have the fuel companies costs.

A lobby for professional driver safety should be coupled with a lobby on taxation imposed on professional drivers generally and not just the fuel aspect.

BTW Tel ..................... is the discussion about taxation not an economic debate, or are we not facing the fact that the majority of fuel cost to us is government taxation.

Your suprised Tel ............... the reason the trade is in the poop is because the trade have allowed themselves to be dragged into the poop .............. those of us who have tried to drag the trade out of the poop end up in the poop personally.

Now I'm climbing slowly out the poop, and am very wary about getting dropped into the poop again.

Hello I am Joe.i am a driver with too many years in the trade. i have read this forum over the months and have to say some of you make sence, notice i said some.

at this point i have joined and feel the need to post. the trade is in the poop because of silly arse people like that terry the 50's porn star fannygain. you had money from me over the years when i was a member of the gmb and when i needed help your silly twit of a regional rep knew bugger all so i lost my case and he gave me incorrect guidance so i for 1 can say the gmb is not worth the shit that runs it.

i read on here and never thought i would post but you lot are mental.
you are trying to win points for yourselves and not the poor buggers that pay into the union.have you told them that it is always a majority vote that you always support and if an individual member askes for help he has as much chance of getting help as getting a blow job from a 20 foot croc.

and the fellow bandshit or bandit you are as bright as a Coleman's arse in the dark. you post some decent stuff but why do you beat about the bush tell these gmb idiots the bottom line that they are killing the industry because the old cardigan wearer knows not a jot about this trade and its modern needs.

and the trade needs to be more informed without having to join a barsturd union
happy xmas joe plush
