A 24-YEAR-OLD taxi driver who claimed she was the victim of an attempted robbery in Scarborough, has admitted perverting the course of justice.
Jade Fowler made a false claim of robbery to Scarborough police after suffering a self-inflicted arm injury.
Fowler, of New Burlington Road, Bridlington, claimed she had picked up two men from Bridlington Spa at about 5am on February 1 who had turned violent when she dropped them off in Scarborough.
She denied perverting the course of public justice at an earlier hearing last month and a two-day trial was set to begin at York Crown Court this week.
But Fowler, who has no previous convictions, changed her plea and admitted her guilt yesterday. Her barrister Charlotte Baines, said Fowler had made an attempt on her own life following the previous hearing and asked for sentencing to be adjourned for the preparation of both a pre-sentence and a medical report.
Judge Shaun Spencer QC agreed to adjourn sentencing until Monday September 21 so the requested reports could be obtained.
