Arson attack forces taxi driver to jump from window
A COVENTRY taxi driver has told how he jumped out of an upstairs window to escape from an arson attack on his home.
Raja Khan woke up to find his terraced house in Foleshill Road, Foleshill, on fire.
The flames were so strong he couldn’t escape downstairs so he jumped out of his back bedroom window in his pyjamas and on to a flat roof before jumping safely on to the ground.
The 50-year-old says he can’t understand why anyone would deliberately set fire to his home and says he feels lucky to be alive after Monday night’s drama.
It is not yet known exactly how the fire was started. Raja, who has been working with Central Taxis Coventry for more than 14 years, was treated at the scene by paramedics while three fire crews from Foleshill and Binley tackled the blaze.
The fire was so severe it destroyed the entire ground floor.
