Taxi drivers handing out condoms
Aberdeen taxi drivers are playing their part in promoting safe sex by handing out condoms to passengers.
The drive is part of an initiative by NHS Grampian to mark World Aids Day and to raise awareness following an increase in HIV infection.
Recent studies have linked the problem with binge drinking, which is why late night taxi drivers are being targeted.
The firm involved, ComCab, said it was starting the "unusual" initiative in the city from Monday night.
An evaluation of the project, which will include the number of condoms distributed and feedback from the taxi drivers themselves, will determine if the pilot could be rolled out across Grampian.
ComCab fleet services manager Graeme Murray said: "We are delighted to be associated with the initiative in conjunction with NHS Grampian.
"ComCab is happy to provide community support and helping our customers to protect themselves."
He said he was sure taxi drivers would take well to the initiative.
