POLICE are hunting two men who threatened a taxi driver at knifepoint before stealing his takings and mobile phone.
The pair flagged down the taxi near Eastleigh Rugby Club and travelled as passengers to Southampton’s Harefield estate before robbing the driver.
The theft happened in the Blendworth Lane area after the two men pulled out a knife and forced the driver to hand over an undisclosed amount of money.
It is the second attack on a taxi driver in Southampton during the past week after two masked gunmen demanded cash from Adrian Allen.
That incident happened in a lay-by outside the gates of Southampton’s Hollybrook Cemetery last Tuesday at 11.45pm.
Mr Allen, 51, said the gunmen told him to hand over his cash in just three seconds.
He told the Daily Echo that he was “basically starring at the barrel” before handing over all the money he had.
DC Scott Spafford, of Bitterne CID, said that at this stage he was not linking the latest theft in Harefield with the previous attack on Mr Allen.
DC Spafford added that the latest victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, had been left shocked, shaken and upset by the incident that happened on Saturday at about 3.30am.
He said: “This is an isolated incident which has caused extreme distress to the driver involved.
“I am sure that with the public’s help we can identify these males.”
The two men are both described as white, aged in their early 20s with local accents.
One of the men had mousy auburn hair and was wearing a red hooded top while the other had dark hair and was wearing a dark grey hooded top.
Anyone with any information should contact Bitterne CID on 0845 045 4545 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
