REVELLERS out in Notts towns can enjoy a safer journey home thanks to teams of taxi marshals being employed during the festive period.
Notts County Council is paying for the marshals in Hucknall, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Worksop and Retford the weekend before Christmas and for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
The marshals, from a private security company, will work from 10pm to 4am helping people get home.
They will help ensure people who need a taxi home are able to queue without others pushing in, which can sometimes spark violence.
Coun Glynn Gilfoyle said: "Taxi ranks in town centres have always been a flashpoint for incidents.

"The local Taxi Association raised the idea of taxi marshal schemes, which have been successfully on trial in other areas."
Superintendent Mark Holland, from Notts Police, said: "The best advice people can take to ensure they get home safely after a night out is to plan how you are getting home before you start your evening, pre-book a licensed taxi in advance or get one at the taxi rank and arrange to travel home with a friend."
