Hello All,

Can anyone clarify the Health & Safety issues as to carrying baby buggies in the back of a purpose built cab?

The latest I have heard is that the baby must be removed from the buggy and carried by the mother on her lap presumably wearing the safety belts supplied???

For safe practice I would have thought the best course of action is to have the buggy facing towards the rear and a safety belt attached around the buggy itself seeing as the baby is strapped in the buggy,  the buggy brakes applied and the mother also wearing a safety belt (which you always have to remind them to do anyway!!).  I would have thought this a much safer option as the buggy is in a low position which would facilitate a lower center of gravity and less travel in the event of an emergency stop....

I cannot see how the first option as being "safe" as the only way it could be is if the mother holds the baby securely in her arms!! This is an impossibility after waking the poor mite from their sleep as they were perfectly alright within the confines of the buggy!!

Who thinks these stupid ideas up??????

I now loathe the situation now as to whether I should carry a baby and buggy and the litigation that could be applied in the event of an accident......

As usual licensing here have no idea and leave it up to our discretion......... until they get a complaint about refusal to take a buggy and then they will be down on us like a ton of bricks!!!!!

Can anyone advise me?

Tony
