Family of murdered cab driver bares its anguish
RELATIVES of a taxi driver shot dead at the wheel of his cab in Sheffield have spoken out for the first time about the murder. The family of Younis Khan, 53, issued a statement about his death last week as police released the third suspect they have arrested in connection with the investigation.
The statement from the Khan family said: "Our family are shocked and devastated by the death of a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. "Our father was a kind and gentle man who all his life had been hard-working and who loved his job as a taxi driver in Sheffield. Our father was well-liked and respected in the community, by all who knew him.
"Younis Khan was a husband, father and grandfather who did not deserve to die in this way. "The family need the support of the community and ask that any person with information contact the police."
Mr Khan died as a result of injuries caused by one round from a pistol which struck him in the chest. It was one of several bullets which struck his black cab in Scott Road, Pitsmoor, a short distance from his family home in Abbeyfield Road. The motive for the killing remains unclear but it appears more likely he was the innocent victim of a feud involving others than a target for robbers. He was working at the time of his death although police are unclear about why he was in the area.
