A Scarborough taxi driver says he could have been killed after yobs hurled a fire extinguisher into the path of his car.
Phil Brewerton, 55, was reaching the end of his shift when the “missile” was thrown in Valley Road.
The former miner – who is facing at least a £1,000 repair bill plus loss of earnings while the car is fixed – said: “I’ve started to realise that I could have been killed if I’d have swerved to miss it.”
Mr Brewerton, a driver with Atlas Taxis, says it was just getting light last Tuesday when the terrifying incident took place.
The fire extinguisher ended up underneath the taxi and when Mr Brewerton inspected the damage he found his front wheels cleared the road by about an inch because the object was wedged underneath.
“I just can’t see any reason why people have to act in this way,” he added.
“I used to be a lad but I wouldn’t have dreamed of throwing something like that under a car. I hate to say it but it’s becoming a hazard of the job.”
Mr Brewerton says he did not get a good look at the three culprits but says they were male and in their 20s and ran off up Plantation Hill after the incident.
