Police and cab driver assaulted at taxi rank 3:09pm Monday 20th July 2009 POLICE were called after a man assaulted a cabbie at the taxi rank near The Bargate, Southampton. A male and female police officer were also punched by the man, aged in his 20s, who was eventually restrained by four people sitting on top of him. Union boss and taxi driver Perry McMillan, who witnessed the incident and helped to restrain the attacker, said: “This latest attack could have been on any one of us. It is the luck of the draw. “We are seeing an increase in attacks on taxi drivers.” Police arrested a man following the incident, which happened just after midnight on Saturday.
