The GMB, one of the largest Trade Unions in the UK with over 650,000 members, has had a Taxi & Private Hire Section for many years and our Union is proud to represent licensed drivers. It is the GMB’s belief that drivers are our industry and therefore it should be drivers who decide policy for their industry. The GMB supports its members both locally and nationally by representing its members in negotiations with local authorities and government. It was decided at the outset that the unification of both the Taxi and Private Hire sections of our industry was a must, with clear demarcation lines if our industry was to survive with a sustainable living for all our members. Within our Regional Branch structure we offer day to day support for licensed drivers, from officers working within our industry. As National Stake-holders with the DFT the GMB PDB are consulted on all Government policies affecting our membership, and with our GMB political officers we are able to access politicians to present our memberships policies.
