Murder trial jury considers its verdict

THE JURY is continuing deliberations in the murder trial of former Littleborough taxi driver Michael Bamford.

Following a final summing up by the judge at Manchester Crown Court, the jury was first sent out on Thursday, given a day off on Friday and when jurors hadn’t reached a verdict by Monday evening, they were sent home in order to return on Tuesday morning.

Ivy Sutcliffe, aged 61, died from a bullet to the head the day after she and her husband Michael Bamford had been in a road crash in Harare, Zimbabwe, where they lived.

Mr Bamford, aged 51, who told the court he was now living in Milnrow, says she killed herself in front of him using a small pistol.

He denies murder.
