You can only use the word TAXI in your trading name, IN THE PROVINCES (dunno exact laws in London but poss the same), if you have at least one licensed Hackney Carriage on your fleet.

Have you fallen foul of the repeal of S75 ............ if so send me a PM with contact details.

That also includes the word CAB
Like Bandit says outside London!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Advertise your business as it is !  To advertise as a TAXI you MUST have at least 1 hackney carriage on your fleet ( Like Bandit says ) .
Please remember a Private Hire Car is not a Taxi !!!!!!

It might be a means of public transport that requires a pre booking policy that greatly resembles a Taxi but it will never be of should be classed as a "Taxi booking".

In reality a Private hire car should NOT have a top sign or any other livery that makes it look similar to a Taxi. ( This is misleading ).>>>>( This is my views on the matter only )..

The only public transport cars that should be allowed to have a top sign display is a TAXI.

But Please PM Bandit as he does know all the rules and regs / legislation related to this post and he will be more than happy to help you with no threat of having to join any union to find out your information.
He is one of the genuine good guys that I personally think very highly of.

I wish you all the best
Regards Steve

I know it's only your opinion Taxis but there is a very good reason why PHVs should also have top-signs( unilluminated and without the word taxi or cab or hire on it ) , and that reason is customer service!!!!!!!

And it is also the reason why there are so many PHVs in the country,......because the Hackneys weren't providing the service that the public wanted!

Sorry allo allo ..................... but nothing contained in your post has any relevance to the question asked.

There are many reasons why PHV's shouldn't have the appearance of a HC ................ customer service cannot be argued as a reason to do anything which potentially puts the public at risk.

The actions of the legitimate taxi trade should take into account the possibility of exploitation from the illegal cowboys who infest our trade and threaten the safety of people who believe they are using a taxi service.

Bandit, I was responding to Taxis opinion in his post above.

The problem you have with PHV having topsigns is the possibility that one of them may take a passenger who is rightly a hackney customer. While I appreciate that insurance may be invalidated in such circumstances this is not the fault of a topsign, it is the fault of the individual driver who should be punished (and what about making it an offence for the passenger as well?)

However I do not believe that that is a good reason to make legitimate customers of legitimate PHVs suffer in trying to identify their booked PHVs from the 5th floor, or the back of a pub, or in a crowd leaving a function etc etc etc.
