The aim of the GMBPDB is to allow drivers to choose whether or not to have cctv.we are not suggesting that this becomes mandatory,we are also aware that the licensing authority in London the PCO may require the systems approved to be encrypted and images only viewable by themselves or the police. We are all aware that the usual suspects will pose for the camera on occaision, but this is of no concern unless the drunks etc, become aggressive towards the driver.I am of the opinion that the approved system should be activated on door opening or on motion being detected.the system should remain armed until a certain period of non- activity has passed, normally most systems over write themselves on a time period of between 14- 28 days.I would also have sound recording.CCTV offers protection to both passengers, drivers and fleet operators who have noticed an increasing number of insurance claims for damages being filed against them by third party drivers or customers trying to scam them.CCTV is a win win situation for this industry, and many licensing authorities are begining to allow advertising to pay the costs or indeed they are putting up the money of installation. In London we are currently prevented from putting adverts on or in our vehicle due to legislation and are in talks with the PCO about this as all other forms of public transport are equiped with funded cctv or allow advertising.
