AS some of you are aware ,I am keeping a log of all incidents, where driversare injured or killed. This information will form the basis of a meeting between the GMB PDP and senior politicians who we want to assist us in this quest to eradicate violence against us. I would appreciate as much information as possible , ie,date,- location,-what level of violence,- was a weapon used ,and any other relevant details. YOUR HELP WILL BE MOST APPRECIATED

Don
This is by far the most important issue facing us all and the dramatic increases in attacks desperatly need a response.
A national campaign for protection be it through cctv's, driver shields, training and things like mandatory imprisonment need to be looked at.
I hope the GMB national meeting on the 12th will address the issue. You keep collecting the data, I'll see if there is someone who is good at artwork and we can see about getting some leaflets done and getting a campaign up and running

I GUARENTEE THAT DRIVERS SAFETY WILL BE AT THE FOREFRONT OF THE AGENDA.
this subject is by far the most important issue on the table, so far the figures are ALARMING and show a dramatic increase in deaths and serious woundings. We need a national response to our situation as this job is now ranked as the third most dangerous in the world. I ask that all ,put aside personalities and concentrate on this issue, please ask all your friends/collegues to post details of attacks on this website,or the professional drivers site at .......gmbprofessionaldriversbranch.co.uk WE need to put foreward a dossier that will shock the authorities into urgent remedial action and perhaps loosen the nations purse strings by funding cctv and other protection. Perhaps a slogan such as" DYING FOR A JOB " or "DEAD END JOB" would raise awareness.........what do you think ,suggestions please

Please see the new section for reporting these incidents underneath "General Chat". This should contain 1 topic per incident and nothing other... Tony & I will make an effort over the coming weeks to move existing reports across to this new forum.
Best of luck turning this deeply concerning trend!

I have enjoyed taking the proverbial on this site and getting some flak back and worried that some of you might really have been offended. But the time for messing around is over at the moment.
Going through the reports and pictures of ours getting beaten, humiliated and in the case of an increasing number killed has brought on a very serious mood.
I sincerely believe that the GMB Drivers branch has in front of it the most serious issue it has ever faced and must rise to the challenge.
A campaign of massive proportions should be launched involving the production of hundreds of thousands of leaflets highlighting what is going on, putting forward what needs to be done in terms of getting the equipment in the cars cctv's etc financed by the government through the licensing authorities. Marches, lobbies, petitions and motions to the Transport Minister Etc.
If the union can cut the mustard which I have every confidence it can, then after a campaign launch it's all shoulders to the wheel
I was going to say all hands to the pump but we don't want you Norfolk lads getting all exited.

AMAZING ISNT IT. either the fact that a record of attacks has been started, or alternatively the readers of forums are only interested in winding one another up over trivial matters has had a dramatic effect in stopping drivers being attacked. LETS CUT OUT THE CRAP!!! and concentrate on this the most serious of events. Perhaps you or one of your friends has suffered at the hands of muggers, thieves, or drunken thugs, if so post details on this website under the heading GENERAL ISSUES and on topic marked VIOLENCE AGAINST DRIVERS. we need as much ammunition as possible to put forward your concerns to the authorities please dont let this chance to end yobbish violence pass please put aside childish banter and unite under a common cause.

Very useful information and it is important that the government is made aware of what is going on, the remedies and the costing which is where they need to act. They will not do this out of the goodness of their hearts but will respond to public pressure.
The leaflets will have to be ready for the new year and a high profile launch in the houses of parliament with high profile union figures and sympathetic politicians is important.
The cctv's, panic buttons, driver shields all cost money and when you are struggling to keep your head above water thats difficult. I sincerely hope all the two bob bullshit can be put to one side in the new year and everyone will put their backs into this.
