One of the city's busiest nightspots is set to lose its taxi wardens prompting fears of an increase in violent flashpoints.
Funding is fast running out for the two wardens who organise cabs for clubbers outside the Xscape during the weekend.
The civilised system of queueing outside Oceana may be replaced by more chaotic scenes in the summer if clubbers are left to compete for taxis in the street.
The city's Community Safety Partnership is calling on venues around the area to contribute funds to keep the scheme running.
Partnership joint-chairman, Irene Henderson, who masterminded the warden scheme, said: "Between 35-40,000 young people descend on the city at the weekend.
The clubs and pubs are cleaning up and they should contribute to the cost.
People are not terribly keen to put their hands in their pockets. Despite our best efforts, the scheme is going to fold and that will have knock-on effects."
The marshall scheme is funded by a £28,000 grant issued by the Home Office and has been running for the past six months.
