Gateshead's fares increased by 10% since 2005, after trade representatives objected to a >2% rise in November 2006.
The trade representatives removed their objections to the less than adequate rise offered by the council in November when it was agreed that an application would be considered in the middle of 2007.
1st June 2007 saw the fares rise to -
Tariff 1 - £2.00 for the first 185m then 20p for each next (or part) 245m
Tariff 2 - £2.50 for the first 185m then 20p for each next (or part) 200m
Waiting time is 20p per 60 seconds
Fouling the vehicle has risen to £60, and £1.50 can now be charged for carrying 5 or more people.
This means that (approx) -
1st mile - £3.20 then £1.20 per mile. 5 mile journey of £8.00 on Tariff 1
1st mile - £4.10 then £1.80 per mile. 5 mile journey of £9.70 on Tariff 2
I think that gives us and the public a fair tariff and together with the small rise in November delivers the minimum 10% rise directed by the members.
